“From Merrehope & Back!”

A Ride for Historic Preservation

Everyone is invited to Merrehope at 3pm on Tuesday, July 4th for the “Patriotic Send-Off Celebration” of Ed Abdella as he sets out on his 1167-mile ride . . . Bike Around Mississippi.

The public is invited to come cheer Abdella on as he makes history being the first to cycle around the entire state of Mississippi. He will be on the bike for over 100 hours and tentatively scheduled to arrive back at Merrehope on Sunday, July the 9th.

The ride that starts and ends at Merrehope will be raising awareness for historic preservation. Abdella is making this ride to support the “Raise The Roof” campaign for historic Merrehope and as preparation for the 2024 Race Across America event. He will make visits to historic buildings around the perimeter of Mississippi. The route takes him north to Columbus and on to Corinth, Southaven, Greenville, Vicksburg, Natchez, Gulfport/Biloxi, Waynesboro and back to Meridian.

Merrehope is located at 905 Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Dr. in Meridian, Mississippi. On the 4th of July the 20 room Neoclassical mansion will be open for tours beginning at 10 am. The Patriotic Sendoff Celebration kicks off at 3:00 pm with Abdella and his support team from Magnolia State Cycles leaving at 4:00 pm headed north and riding counterclockwise around the perimeter of Mississippi. The tentative schedule will bring him back to Merrehope on Sunday, July 9th, the fifth day of the ride.
